This powerful Equity Think Tank Series will be one of the largest regional gatherings of higher education leaders in Minnesota to address the most critical topics of equity, diversity and social justice issues challenging campuses today. Through facilitated discussions, roundtable dialogues, coaching sessions, and a mastermind feedback session, staff and faculty participants will develop strategic plans for their institutional areas and bring that work back to their own campuses for implementation. This is a multi-part series that begins on January 19, 2018, and continues with an additional gathering on March 9, 2018. In addition to the two full-day meeting dates, participants will receive two institutional coaching sessions to assist with implementation of their strategic plans.
Featured speakers include Sunny Kase (Minnesota Private College Council), Dr. Brian Lozenski (Macalester College), Dr. Keith Mayes (University of Minnesota), Sedric McClure (Macalester College), and Dr. Buffy Smith (University of St. Thomas).
Think Tanks are facilitated conversations with the intent to stimulate creative ideas, challenge and nurture strategic thinking, develop plans of action, connect with community, and transform our spheres of influence.
Times of crisis and conflict often reveal contradictions, challenges, and opportunities. Equity work moves us beyond equality (which assumes that everyone should get the same thing regardless of need) to giving everyone what they need to be successful. Equity acknowledges that not everyone starts in the same place or has the same needs. Equity ensures that everyone has fair access to what they need to enjoy full and healthy lives, and it removes barriers that prevent full participation by all people.
This multi-part Equity in Higher Education Think Tank Series will provide participants the opportunity to learn strategies to stay focused in times of crisis and resistance; learn innovative ways to empower yourself and staff to generate fresh ideas and effective methods to think, act, and plan strategically; and create radical self-care practices for yourself and those around you.
In this Think Tank Series you will:
Staff and faculty from Minnesota colleges and universities who are committed to critical conversations about equity and inclusion in higher education and who also want to create actionable solutions that will move their institutions forward.
